People in Montana really need to start picking up their yards. Even BNSF, the host freight railroad we are on, acts like some kid who doesn’t pick up his toys. When I was a kid, the old-man always said “it’s got to look nice from the road”. Apparently no one here follows that plan – I’ve seen at least a dozen 1950’s school buses, at least two ex Coast Guard choppers, a hundred washers & dryers, and numerous obsolete pieces of farm equipment. These little towns up here would be kind of pretty if everyone picked up.
No sleepers available for tonight, I think a bunch of blue-hairs got on last minute back in N.D. and grabbed ‘em. I am sleeping okay in coach but I have to admit, my back is starting to go. I am probably going to call Amtrak when I get to Victoria and upgrade my next ride to a sleeper.
Next we are stopping in Havre, Montana (pronounced Hav-Er, not Harve like Brett Favre) for gas and a breath of fresh air. I have about 24 cigs left which should get me to Canada. Once I am there they are $10.21 a pack; and my stingy ass won’t pay that and so the plan is to finally quit. And then Brother Josh can deal with me!
We are pulling into a neat fueling yard as I write. This one seems to be picked up better than the others - the yard manager must be from the Midwest.
